It has been thirty years since HIV was first recognized

On June 2010, according to a new report by the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS , new HIV infections have been reduced by 19percent over the past eight years. For the estimated 33.3 million people living with HIV after nearly 30 years into a very complex epidemic, the gains are real but still fragile. Future progress will depend heavily on the joint efforts of everyone involved in the HIV response. The global AIDS report of 2010 shows that percent48 of women and percent7.5 of children among the 33.3 million people infected with HIV.

General status of HIV/AIDS in Turkey

Turkey is located between countries of Central Asia and those of Eastern Europe, which have some of the fastest-growing HIV epidemics in the world, (110.000 new cases in 2008*). In spite of its location, Turkey is considered to be at a low level epidemic.The first case of HIV infection was reported in 1985, and by the end of June 2009, a total of 3898 cases had been identified. click here to get text
